When I was very much engaged in the business of earning money, and also running my own company I used to take time out for a bike ride - to clear the mind and stress the body. Always a good thing to do.

Later I took to longer trips, both on my own and as part of the "Gang of Four". That is my sister, my brother-in-law and his brother-in-law. These latter trips were across France, a great country for riding a bike, as long as you don't need to take it on a train without some notice.

Now-a-days I have a Brompton which is admirably suitable for shopping when parked up at a campsite somewhere.

France - Geneva to Avignon - With the gang of 4. Through the Savoy country, broken towns and the Rhone with a few atomic power stations on the way.

France - With the gang of 4. Down the West coast from Roskoff to Biarritz. 900 kms in 9 days.

New Zealand - South Island - Alone. 1400 kms in 14 days. Christchurch to Picton, Nelson, Mokatua, Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, Wanaka, Mt. Cook, Tekapo, Ashburton, Christchurch.

France - With the gang of 4. From Narbonne to Biarritz. There are a few "fingers" of the Pyranees in the way.
